Random Musing

Slowly, I am becomming whole again. Ever so slowly the sickness lingering inside me releases it's dreadful grasp. My insides are churning with the toxins, my skin moist with recent release.

Okay, let's just say I am getting better but it has been a long and miserable road! I only feel old when I am sick.

Earlier today I was pondering the topic of aging. For those who know me that might strike a cord of fear in you. I am not one to grow old gracefully, I am kicking and screaming and digging in my claws. I think I have even possibly reclaimed a few years once thought lost=) Anywho, I was remembering Sunday summer drives with my father mindlessly playing with the loose skin on the back of his hand. He would rub his thumb across the back of his hand and manauver little hills of loose skin as he did so. One day I asked him why my hands didn't have that? He laughed is fatherly chuckle and said, "cause your still a little girl." With eyes wide I was devistated to hear this answer. One more game I would have to wait to play=( He didn't think of it as any fun but boy I sure did! I still don't have loose skin on the back of my hand to play with but it isn't because "my skin is the taut part of a well oiled machine" either.=D

I am sick for the third day in a row=( I went looking for a picture to show how sick I am but found it difficult to sum it all up. I did get some ideas of things to do while sick in bed though. I thought I would share them.

Things to do while sick in bed
1. Listen to ipod
2. Watch old movies
3. Draw pictures
4. Look at pictures of other sick people and rate their sickness in comparison.
5. knit
6. use your cold medicine to spell words.
7. Look at other peoples pictures of their temperature and know you could top that if you only had the energy to find the thermometer and the camera.

I must be getting better though. For one I am typing this and yesterday I don't even think the though of blogging crossed my mind. I also managed to keep down some bread and butter. Yeah! food. I have finished 2 lg jugs of Pedialyte today and they are still sweet tasting so I guess I need more.

Bri is doing better. Enough so that it shows she hasn't taken her pills in a week. She explained to me that since her theater class is the only thing she does that she likes and it is what she lives for she doesn't think it is too much to ask to expect me to take her to it.Oh and she is very disappointed to see that her dad decided to take down the gate that keeps the dogs out of her room as it is a great inconvenience to her. Lol, it fell down and we have all been too sick to fix it. Sometimes I get so wrapped up in how good things are that I forget how crappy they can be. I am very thankful for the Amen Clinic's help in finding Bri's happy place. I just hope we get back there quickly. I plan to let her go to her theater class tomorrow without me even though I know it could be rough on her. Tomorrow they assign parts for the play they will be working on for the rest of the year. I won't be there to pick up the pieces when she doesn't get that part she wants. But I will be here when she gets home=)

B.J. went to work today! even though he is still feeling crummy it is getting better. He is asleep on the couch now. He is trying so hard to take care of me now like I took care of him last week, it is sweet.

Alright, need more rest. Tomorrow will again be better.

Unfortunately, Heather

I found this post thanks to Unfortunately, Kim....

Here's how to play... just do a Google search of the phrase "unfortunately, _______" but put your first name in the blank (be sure to enclose it all in quotation marks). From AllSorts, who says, "The resultant phrases are hilarious if you have a slightly twisted sense of humor and an appreciation for random absurdity."

Unfortunately Heather has surfaced on our screens in Scrubs.

Unfortunately, Heather forgot to follow the most important advice: Stay out of the path of runaway police motorcycles.

Unfortunately, Heather’s first job didn’t work out. Did that mean it was time to give up? No, it did not. Heather took some time off to get things in order.

Unfortunately, Heather lost the ability to transform into Sasquatch. Recently, Heather has been acting as a mission control for the team.

Unfortunately Heather will never go away. She will always try to get money from Paul claiming it is for Beatrice. Poor Beatrice....Heathers pawn.

Unfortunately, Heather was playing the nice role, and let her team mate sabotage both of them.

Unfortunately Heather has to work as a hooker to pay for her retro fashion obsession. But she doesn’t mind. I mean check out these shoes!

Unfortunately, heather like full to partial sun, so this may not work for her. If she doesn't like them much, maybe someone else does and

LOL!!! and the fun goes on and on!!

Belief

In my quest for knowledge I am constantly jumping down rabbit holes. That said, I have been having an issue with the fact that everywhere I turn these days I am faced with religion. And not just pleasant reminders that their are plenty of options out there, but instead obnoxious people who are so self riotous it hurts.
I am not against religion. I choose not to partake in any organized religion but I can appreciate the benefits it offers in some peoples lives. I was raised by non religious parents and my grandmother whom I loved above all else took me to weekly Sunday school and life was good. The older I got the more clearly I was able to see the flaws in the "system." I made a personal decision that I needed more information before I was willing to accept any religion, including the one I was surrounded by.

I cannot say I fully understand all religion. I have spent time studying the histories of many of the most prevalent religions and still I have chosen none. I am okay with this, this is my choice.

Most people in my world accept this as my choice and do not try to sway me.

In the past I have been very supportive of other peoples choices of religious practices. I see myself as a tolerant and easy going person on this issue. However lately a small group of ladies and their views are getting to me. I am finding myself irritated by them. They sit and profess their love to their god and judge each other by what they think their god would want. They preach tolerance and the cast out non conformists. They blame things on their god that are really their own uneducated insecurities. This behavior is nothing new, I know. What is new is my intolerance. Where is this coming from...

My therapist and I are working on regression therapy. The hope is the I will stop feeling guilty for not allowing my mother into my life for over 14 months now. I am doing better at accepting her narcissism as a fact and also no longer making excuses for her choices. This is good for me. The more I learn the easier it is to let her go. Where is this all going?

I kept seeing in blogs people claiming to be Objectivists. This was a new term for me so it intrigued me. I finally found a blog with a post "Why I am an Objectivist."

What I learned from this post was more than just a definition of "Objectivism" but also a definition of "Altruism."

"It is important to note that altruism is the antithesis to selfishness. Altruism
is the “unselfish concern for the welfare of others” and is in disastrous,
direct conflict with rational self-interest. This is not a definition of
convenience, but the actual meaning of altruism. I reject altruism in every
form. When someone is repeated told that he must put the welfare of others before
himself, he begins to develop a sense that his worth is somehow linked with his
concern for others, extending as far as those unknown to them, and
unidentifiable by the values they hold – as if each human being is responsible
for the life of every other human being regardless of that other’s choices,
values, or morality. This moral code dictates that one reject cause and effect
and assume that every human being, by virtue of being a human being is worthy of
his efforts in the form of his time, money, and consideration before he, or his
loved-ones are worthy of his efforts."
Posted by LB on blog 3 Ring Binder

This was very revealing to me. Is it possible that being raised by a narcissistic drug addict taught me to be altruistic. Have I been subscribing to a "religion" or belief system my whole life without realizing it on a conscious level. And as I go through my therapy and accept my mother for who she is am I then coming closer to a new belief system. And is it in this new belief system that these ladies with their religious outpourings are becoming less tolerated by myself. In my new “rational self-interest” am I just allowing myself to feel that which has not been allowed before.
I welcome any feedback and I welcome you to take a look at the blog I linked above. I have only recently found LB but I am forever enlightened by it already. I also want to thank LB for taking the time to write the extensive post on Objectivism. It is an intriguing concept for me and I hope I have not misconstrued it above.

Quarantine

So the house is quarantined! Bri is doing better but now B.J. is full out miserable! He was up most of last night and has a fever tonight. I gave him TheraFlu and he is resting now. He even had to cancel his Warcraft raid, lol. Yes, for him that's a pretty big deal=D I guess we will have a mellow weekend... oh goodness... I have a baby staying over, hope he gets better fast.

Today Ms Amy had a chat with Bri about how often the lead rolls in plays arn't the ones you think they are going to be. How sometimes the people you think of as the main characters don't actually have that many lines and that since she was so good at memorizing lines she was going to get alot of lines. Bri took it pretty well. The teacher for that class let me know they would be finding out their rolls at the end of the next class. I asked that she explain to the kids why they got the parts they were getting and not just assign them. I hope she does.

The dogs are getting spring fever. They are really feeling cooped up. Bri has been taking Zoe for walks but couldn't yesterday and today due to not feeling well. Boy is Zoe pouting. The other two are spending alot of time rough housing in the kitchen. We also had to stop giving them any food at all in the kitchen because they were getting to demanding. So no people food at all for awhile! They are having withdrawals! They even tore into a garbage bag yesterday. I thought B.J. was going to hang them by their toes. Guess we need to get them out of the house a little more.

I loaned our "chicken mummy" to the school today. We made ours 4 years ago when we were studying the ancients. We had 3 families gether here at the house every week for 3 months to study and work on the project of mummification. Our's is still in tact and looking good. I believe the other two families didn't keep their's for to long after the project. I keep everything. Anyway the teacher I loaned it to is doing one chicken as a class project. She was eager to show the kids a finished project to keep them motivated. After all the project takes 70+ days to complete. It was fun to show the teacher our pictures from when we did it here. Made me eager to do a big project at home. Guess I need to check the history book and find something that ties in.

Well I guess it is time to wrap this up. Maybe I should do some dishes=) Hope you are all well and thank you for stopping by.

Inviting Friends and Family

So I just sent out my email to invite you all to tour my blog=D Feels like an open house. I hope you all learn something new about me or at least enjoy a little giggle.

Bri. is trying to get to sleep. She had her pal K stay the night tonight and they were both dragging a little. Bri. has the croupy cough again and that seems to wear her out. She made it to classes today but she was noticably tired. She insisted on going today as she is very excited about theater. The school play this year is A Midsummer Night's Dream. Bri. is very enthusiastic this year as she feels she will get a good part. Last year she had 2 very small parts in The Wizard of Oz. I just recieved an email from our consultant at the program who gave me the heads up that Bri. is once again not going to get the lead. While this is no surprise, it is still going to be hard on her. She is still not seeing that when she concentrates on what she's saying she looses most of her facial animation. But she is getting better and really that is what I hope for most!

B.J. has been taking guitar lessons and is truely enjoying himself. I think he wishes it was a little easier for him but he is making very good progress. Tonight he went with his Mom to the pub to watch his teacher perform. I stayed home with the girls but I am eager to hear about his experience when he gets home. The teacher seems very gifted and is forever leaving B.J. in amazement.

As far as B.J.'s job goes we won't know anything until March 13th. His company has anounced it will lay off 26% of it's employees in his division and one other. It is very possible that this layoff will get us. This is creating a fair amount of stress for us. B.J. is taking it much harder than I am. After 9 years and 8 lrounds of layoffs I feel fortunate we made it this long. I do hope we miss this round too but I am trying to stay realistic.

B.J. got a call from his brother tonight that he is being laidoff from his job on Friday. He sounded pretty disappointed as one would expect. Hopefully he will be able to find a new job quickly or at least some temporary jobs to hold him over until they recall him. In B.J.'s case no one has ever been recalled they just keep loading down the people left over with more work=(

Hmm... not supposed to be a dreary post! I mean the house is quiet, my Irie dog is keeping my feet warm, and my dear will be home soon=D Tomorrow Bri. has Science and Writing. I think after that she will be pretty tired so I am not planning to get much homeschool in. Next week we have:
Sat- I am babysitting all night=D

Sunday- House cleaning

Monday- Bri has classes and B.J. has dentist to get broken tooth fixed

Tuesday- Off to Tacoma for our check up at The Amen Clinic, and Bri's friend C.

Wednesday- Bri has classes and I have my therapist followed by our haircuts

Thursday- Bri. has classes

Friday- Piano class, Ms. Annette's for lunch and Bri's friend C.

Valentines Day and 13th Anniversary!!

Happy Valentines Day!

and to my darling husband, Happy 13th Anniversary!

For the 3rd year in a row I am sick! Bah!!

Of all the days of the year to be miserable!

This year I made my husband a calender and the book 1001 Ways to be Romantic. I know you are thinking not a very subtle hint but I assure you it will benifit him as I am the one who forgets to be romantic... he is very romantic always. I tend to get wrapped up in the house and home school and life and forget to be sweet. My first job in the book was a calender for love where you highlight the best days for hanky panky. As this is not something we need help with I just made a calender about how much I love him.

My dearest husband got me chocolates from Godiva in a beautiful heart box and a dozen golden roses, oh and lunch from McDonalds=D See I told you he didn't need help in the romance department! He also made reservations for us to go out to dinner but I had him cancel because I feel so crummy. (boo, hoo)

Bri. is at the movies with her Mema and Auntie Kelly. We gave her the next 2 books in a series she has been wanting, Queen Geeks in Love and Queen Geeks at the Prom. She was very excited and happy to blog about them. My beautiful girl is growing up=D

She had a great time bowling yesterday. I can't wait to upload the pictures.

She has become a very good judge of character as well. I am so proud of her! Parenting has some real feel good moments!

Sunday, February 8, 2009

Another weekend blur. Will they ever again be long enough? I was able to get some filing done as well as some much needed housework. Bri helped with the dusting and cleaned up her work spaces. B.J. scrubbed the floor and even did a few dishes. I did the house floors, cleaned the table tops and prepared some lessons for this week.

Bri. has a very busy week ending with a birthday party for one of her friends. I am hoping the party will go well for her but also concerned. Bri. is eleven and the party girl is turning 15. Now the 2 girls get along fabulously but there will be other teens there as well. I have already said no to the sleep over portion, topics of conversation inappropriate for 11, but hoping the "party" will be fine for her. Ah a mothers job of protecting her young is never done=D

Currently the house is silent as hubby sleeps and Bri reads. The clicking from my typing is the only sound.Very peaceful and yet it reminds me noise is needed to prepare dinner. So I am off to make noise!

I hope your having a great Imbolic or Groundhog's Day if you prefer!

Bri had classes today and then came home fired up about science. She checked on her egg experiment from yesterday(one in water and one in vinegar). She giggled with delight to see the one in water had expanded beyond it's shell. After that we looked at A Drop of Water by Walter Wick. She decided to try out "Molecules in Motion" Using a drop of food coloring in a jar of still water she was able to watch as the water spread throughout.

I made homemade chicken strips and fries for dinner. They were alright but Bri was still hungry afterwards...she must be growing again.

I had copied an excert from the Mother Earth Book on Imbolic and so I had her read it and look at some of the recommended celebration ideas. She was egar to have candles out so I obliged.
We gathered our candles and lit them. For me it was in honor of the earths light. I think Bri was doing something from one of her books about meditation and future foretelling. Either way it was very nice and symbolic for us both.

Now she is off getting ready for bed and I am getting ready to join a raid with my husband. Three evenings a week after family time he and I run raids with our World of Warcraft Guild. It is good to have something to do with him that is all about him=D So I am off to play. Hopefully I will be sleeping tonight but if I am once again unable I will tell you about some of the sites I found today on Pond Ecology for Bri's science class.

Good Evening! Be sure to light your candle tonight as well=D

Winter Blah!

Sunday night? Where did the weekend go! Not enough house cleaning to many birthday parties and engagements with friends. So here I sit waiting for one last load of laundry to finish. As I read through my fav. blogs I once again remember my own desire to host a blog and here again I return. Why is it that while doing anything else I can think of pleanty I want to say but once I sit down and begin to type I achieve nothing but writers block and therefore simply drone on...

Tomorrow Bri will attend her writing and science class which she has informed me she could happily do without=D. However at least for know her lust for the theater class she is taking will keep her submissive to my requirement that she also take the writing and science classes as well. After along talk on Friday I think she is also back on task with her studies as well. It must be hard for her to focus on such boring things when all she wants at the moment is to be a broadway actress and singer. At 11 she is past the point of blindly believing me when I tell her there is more to learn and yet she is still not sure how to boldly refuse me either, so far so good=D

Tonight in my email box I recieved her latest book requests and I had to giggle a little inside. She is so her mother's daughter. All neatly typed and cross referenced to Amazon. Such a smart cookie. As I tucked her in tonight she inquired as to how soon the books would be arriving... okay so we still need to work on the whole "Just because you ask for it doesn't mean you'll get it" and maybe a little "money doesn't grow on trees" and possibly a tiny " these things take time". Or maybe I will just suck it up and order them, after all there are worse things a preteen girl could be asking for, right?

Almost like an alarm clock the buzzer on the dryer sounds to remind me that sleep is a necessary evil, and one that I don't seem to do well without. So cheers and sweet dreams to all, goodnight.
